TOP PICKS: Korean Fried Chicken

Korean Fried Chicken from Hansik Restaurant

Korean Fried Chicken or “Chikin” (as they are usually called in Korea) has been setting the Korean food scene alight in Perth (and the entire world) for several years now. Undeniably good with a nice cold beer, they come in many delectable flavours making it an irresistible snack or dinner option for those lazy nights when its too hard to cook. Here are our top picks for some of the best Korean Fried Chicken in Perth.

Gami Chicken & Beer

Being one of the earlier entrants to the Korean Fried Chicken scene in Perth, Gami was founded by four friends over ten years ago. It now boasts seventeen stores across Australia (with three right here in WA)! They are a serious player in the game, and their Soy Garlic and Sweet Chilli flavoured fried chicken goes down really well with a pint of beer!

A South Korean-based international “Chikin” franchise, Nene probably singlehandedly brought KFC to Perth’s social consciousness. With five stores across Perth, their OriginalBulgogi and Snowing Cheese flavoured fried chicken hits the spot every time.

Hansik

Located south of the river right smack in the residential suburb of Willeton, lies this popular Korean Restaurant that my family and I frequent. They serve excellent Korean food here, and their fried chicken is no exception. There is often a bit of a wait for dining in and ordering takeaway, but its worth being a little patient, especially if you are going to try their Sweet & Spicy and Spicy Honey Soy flavoured fried chicken.

You can find Hansik at 4/7 Woodpecker Ave, Willetton WA 6155.

7 Grams Chicken and Cafe

Moving in the opposite direction to the north side of town stands 7Grams Chicken Cafe on Fitzgerald Street. In passing, it would be easy to assume that this place is just like any other cafe on the busy strip, but behind the cafe’s exterior facade lies a tried and true Korean Fried Chicken joint that I have been visiting for years. Their SnowGarlic and Spicy Chilli with Cheese flavoured fried chicken are amazing.

You can find 7 Grams Chicken & Cafe at 212 Lake street, Perth WA 6000.
