Oozing old-world charm, this lauded French restaurant is laidback but upbeat. Run by hospitality veterans Sarah and Liam Atkinson, Le Rebelle offers a nostalgic bistro setting that is a popular haunt for those who relish brilliantly prepared French classics such as Escargots, Steak Tartare, French Onion Soup and Fish Bouillabaisse. Showcasing an unpretentious menu and a thoughtful wine list, patrons can expect the quintessential modern bistro fare with a delicious drop of good wine.
On a recent trip to Le Rebelle, as always, we struggled to place an order because we wanted everything on the menu. But unsurprisingly, the service and food (that we ended up ordering) were faultless as usual. The Duck Liver Parfait (served with truffle butter and toasted brioche) is mousse-like and decadent. The Crab Toast is dainty and just as exquisite with its creaminess. Both dishes made an excellent starter for our indulgent meal.
The Steak Tartare (served with cognac, horseradish and pomme frite) was quite outstanding. This unmistakably French dish is anything but boring and won us over with its tasty layers of flavour and texture. It is so good that I think this version may sway anti-fans of this dish!
Our main course, grass-fed Beef Fillet (served with asparagus and horseradish cream) was a triumph. Meat connoisseurs will not be disappointed with this plate of utterly tender beef swimming in delicious, silky jus. This place has a knack for making something that looks effortless, taste amazing.
Featuring perfectly cooked fillet of snapper, jumbo prawn and scallops, the pièce de résistance of our meal was the Claypot Fish Bouillabaisse. Vibrant and luscious, this dish boasts a beautiful juxtaposition of flavours between the delicate seafood and the rich gusto of the saffron rouille. Pescatarians will fall in love with this dish.
Le Rebelle excels in serving delicious French comfort food with finesse, so it is no wonder why it has impressed many bistro-fare devotees. Exuding an ambience typical of old Paris, this place took us back to our travels across Europe. And with such a cozy and intimate atmosphere, this restaurant is a great dining destination for any occasion.
